Reuse and Recycle…Even if it is New…
OK…so occasionally during the Christmas rush, I will go into a clothes store to buy clothes for my kids presents and they are not there. Duh…of course. So occasionally I will see something that I love and pause for a second and think…will it fit? I mean, it IS on the mega sale rack and it IS super cute, so why don’t I just buy it and see if it will fit. I mean, it looks like it will fit, well maybe for at least 3 months. But it is SO cute, so you just buy it, right? Fast forward to two days after Christmas. “MOM…this shirt is too tight in the sleeves!!!” I go and look. I see Sophie standing there like a stuffed sausage and half of her chest hanging out. OK really Old Navy, do you have to make V necks that touch your toes? Anyhoo, I digress. She stands there sullen, the corners of her mouth as low as the V neck. “OH HONEY….I KNOW…believe me I know you are sad, because it is a really cute shirt!!!” Even worse I was thinking, I got it for pennies. The V neck, I am sure now, was the reason.
Fast Forward a couple of weeks later. I am staring at this shirt on my dresser. I could give it to my friend’s little girl. NO…the V neck thing. That would be cruel to tempt an even smaller girl into thinking she would be able to wear this cute shirt only to be told by a mother (who would be wanting to strangle me in her dreams, but rightly so) that she could not wear this shirt because it make her look like a two-dollar…anyhoo…
I looked at the shirt and got out my cutting mat and a sharp pair of scissors.
I was the “Mother of the Year” when Sophie came home from school that day. “MOM!!!! Is that for me? I can take that bag on sleepovers!!!” I think she showed it to at least three friends this week. “My Mom made this for me out of a T-Shirt. Do you see the handles? They are the sleeves!”
Recycling will make you a hero.
Fabric: Muslin, and a T-Shirt
What is so Cool? This was a no-sew project. Everything here was done with heat and bond tape from Wal-Mart. You just need an iron.
What is that awesome ribbon along the top? That is the new Raspberry Fizz stitched Grosgrain from Papertrey Ink.
How long did this take? For me, about an hour and a half from start to finish. I am slow at these things.

Such a super cute idea! I know exactly what you mean about old navy! I bought a couple of those same v-necks once for layering and they really were unwearable! (I guess for normal size people, at least!)

i have a sophie too!! terrific idea, i can see many a t-shirt ripped apart. i agree with you on the V neck thing. between that and their 2 inch shorts and skirts, i don’t what old navy is trying to promote for young girls.

Awww this is so cute!!! She’ll cherish that forever now.
Too bad all the stores seem to be making v-necks like that these days. My hubby keeps telling me to buy some even though I can’t wear them to work. LOL
