Fancy Flourishes
“It’s my turn, it’s my turn, it’s my turn!!” Just like the eager kid in the back row of class feels with a raised arm and willingness to share, I too, feel this way when I get my turn to share during release week! “OOOH..me me me!! I can do Fancy Flourishes!”
I am excited to share with you what I did today using the new Fancy Flourishes set from Papertrey due out tomorrow. I thought it would be special to show some male/female diversity in the ways you can use this set. The first card I made was for my Dad for Father’s Day. What I did first was to take some pictures of pictures of me and my brothers at different times in our lives. After I took the pictures, (mine was of my school picture in grade school, my middle brother was of him at a 4th of July Parade, and my youngest brother was in eighth grade when that picture was taken) I then pulled them into Photoshop and sized them all the same size of 2×2. My finished card size is 5×7.
Then I printed the pictures out onto Soft Stone Cardstock, because I wanted to make a card using shades of gray.
I then stamped Fancy Flourishes onto my base of Smokey Shadow Cardstock with versamark and used Filigree Clear Embossing Powder. I love how it looks almost black, but at the same time there is dimension and helps gives interest to the monochromatic color scheme.
using my scalloped rectangle punch and the sentiment from Father Knows Best was a perfect solution for my sentiment. I used an echo of the scallops around the frame I made and the small piping underneath in soft stone. I was careful to miter the corners of my handmade frame to give it a nice clean, classic look. A True Black Satin bow finished it off.
For the feminine card I made, I decided on a Vintage Cream/Ocean Tides color combination. I wanted a lot of motion in this card, but at the same time I wanted it to be very calming. This is a house-warming card for my sister-in-law which also showcases Melissa’s new Bird Watching Set as well as the new Background Basics: Text Style.
It is amazing just by using different colors how much different these flourishes can seem. I am sure you have all been waiting for a set like this, like I have! I am excited it is finally here!

I can’t believe I’m the first to comment! Both of these projects are awesome. TFS the idea of printing directly on the colored cardstock. I wouldn’t have thought to do this, but it looks fabulous! I’m definitely lovin’ that Flourish set!!
