I’m Gonna Get My Kicks…
On Route 66!
Off we go on a romantic trip for 8 days! Yes…8 days of childrenless solitude! Just the two of us! How long do you think it will last before we want to kill each other? Just kidding!
Yes, john and I will be headed out West. Our flight leaves early tomorrow and we will be Vegas bound! Whoot! Since I will be computerless for eight days (yes, I am a crazy one without an i-phone or internet on my phone at all) I thought I would share with you some of our fun itinerary.

My kind of city…not!
and for a fun date in the evening:

Yup…John and I are going to see the Blue Man Group. Fun.

Hoover Dam
Grand Canyon

Four Corners!

Monument Valley

Mesa Verde

Durango and Silverton, CO. I am so excited to ride this train. This is a narrow Gauge Railroad which is a four hour journey each way from Durango to Silverton and back again. John and I got tickets in first class in that bottom car. The only car with a full glass enclosure so you can see EVERYTHING! The highs, lows, rivers, rocks…everything! I highly suggest a visit to their website.
Wigwam Motel in Holbrook AZ. Yes I am serious, and yes, this will be the best part of the vacation bar none!! I am so psyched to sleep here on Route 66!!
So these are some of the highlights of our big trip out in the wild wild west, where we will have stories of scorpions and rattlesnakes (or so says my imagination.) At least I will sleep in a Wigwam. Now if that isn’t a vacation, I don’t know what is!

Looks like an awesome trip!! If the Vegas strip isn’t really your cup of tea, you should check out Red Rock Canyon… It’s on the outskirts of Vegas and it’s *gorgeous*.

Hi Becky,
Boy do I envy you this trip. My husband and I took pretty much the same trip 20+ years ago and loved every minute of it. We camped out at Mesa Verde and woke up to deer licking our faces through the side of the tent! You picked a hot time of the year but the views should be excellent. Make sure you stay hydrated as climbing the ladders at Mesa Verde (assuming they still let you) is very tiring and heat producing otherwise. Probably just as well you aren’t going to be tethered to electronics for this trip. The best way to appreciate so many of the spots you’ve chosen is to experience the moment without the modern interuptions.
If it doesn’t take you too far out of your way you might also want to check out the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It’s in the same area you’ll be traveling in and is positively amazing! We were there while an Indian flute concert was happening and the sound was very ethereal in this setting.
Have a fun and fabulous time and take tons of photos. You’ll have enough material for a lifetime of scrappin and journaling.
We’ll all be waiting for you here when you get back.

Sounds very cool Becky!! My parents are just getting back from a cross-country camping treck and saw many of these same things – but that wigwam is very neat!! Have a great time!!

Becky, have a GREAT time in my part of the country. Yes, I am a desert rat (I live in Mesa, AZ). You will love the trip, it is hot here and staying hydrated “ALL” the time is key. You don’t want to ruin your trip with sun stroke so anything hectic try to do early in the day if possible. I haven’t done the train in Colorado yet, but plan to soon. Enjoy your child free days and be sure to let us know when you return about all the fun things!

Enjoy your trip! My DH and I love the Southwest and we visited several of your sites on our honeymoon. The train from Durango to Silverton is a lot of fun. We took a jeep tour up to Silverton and the ghost towns at Animas Fork but then took the train back to Durango. It is beautiful scenery and then you can’t beat Monument Valley. I’ll live vicariously through your stories (and hopefully photos) when you get back.

Hey Becky! I’m anxious to hear about everything, but especially the Blue Man Group! When we went, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack with the intensity! I’m a jumpy kind of gal, and the lights would go off and WAM, one of those blue faces with eyes would be right in the isle staring me in the face! LOL It was a GREAT show! Enjoy your vacation!

Okay, I will want to know about the WigWam Hotel. I think Oprah and Gayle stopped there on their road trip a few years ago and Oprah found it not to her liking. let’s hope they made updates. Please tell me about it.
